Malibu CA:
If you do not know it is coming, you have been hiding under a rock. The major West Los Angeles Freeway known as the 405 or San Diego freeway will be shut down completely over the weekend of July 15th through July 17th. The 53 hour closure will effect a 10 mile stretch linking the westside with the San Fernando Valley. As a result, alternative roads may be jammed, backing up travelers for hours. The impact on the Malibu area may be severe. Since all roads linking the San Fernando Valley and Malibu are one lane in each direction, other than Kanan Road, emergency vehicles may be unable to get to and from these areas. If you are would otherwise travel to the Malibu and Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area that weekend, it is strongly recommended that you consider the potential traffic and logistical problems that may ensue.
The Malibu Search and Rescue Team plans to field multiple rescue crews on both the Pacific Coast Highway/Malibu Area and in the San Fernando Valley side of the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area.
