Malibu CA: A female hiker who scaled the Escondido Waterfalls slipped and injured her ankle and was stranded on the second of three waterfalls. The small remote location made the rescue operation very difficult and necessitated a request by Malibu SAR and LACO Fire personnel for two helicopters. Responding were LACO Fire copter 11 and LASD Air Rescue 5. Copter 11 arrived on scene first, scouted the location, lowered its paramedic rescuer to the ledge where the hiker was stranded. After talking to the hiker, the paramedic determined the safest route was to raise the hiker on the copter's winch system. The hiker was evacuated without incident and was taken to a nearby hospital.
